The Creation

According to the hylian scrolls three goddesses descended from the heavens and created the world. Din, the goddess of power created the land and huge mountains red with fire. Nayru, the goddess of wisdom brought law and science to the land, the sky turned blue and was filled with white clouds. Faore, the goddess of courage created the life that would obey the law, the ground was covered in green grass and flowers. When the goddesses work was done they left the world for the heavens, leaving behind a symbol of their power, a golden triangle known as the Tri-Force. A small but great portion of the goddesses was left inside the great artefact, which was to guide the life of Hyrule for an eternity.

The Tri-Force had the power to bestow three titles which gave the receivers great powers. The Forger of Strength, The Keeper of Knowledge and The Juror of Courage. From it’s hiding place in the so-called Sacred Realm, or, Golden Land where the goddesses hid it, the Tri-Force beckoned people from the outside world to seek it in the hope that one day they would be granted it’s immense powers.

Six races evolved over time to live in the new world. The fish-like Zora lived in the vast waterways of the land, The rock-eating Gorons lived in the mountains and caves, In the deep woods and forests lived the elf-like Kokiri, the all female race of the Gerudos lived in the deserts, the mysterious Shiekah lived at the foot of ‘Death Mountain’ while the dominant race, the Hylians, lived in the fields and greenlands.

The Hylian people were well known for their magic and wizardry, it was said that their long, pointed ears enabled them to hear messages from the gods. Their descendants settled in various parts of the world and passed on their knowledge to all people. But over time, this knowledge was sometimes distorted or lost entirely…

The Gates to The Golden land

Over time the Tri-Force would be sort by many, but none came close to discovering the great artifact. But a verse in the Book of Mudora made the Tri-Force even more desired:

In a realm beyond sight,
The sky shines gold, not blue.
There, the Triforce's might
Makes mortal dreams come true.

Many aggressively searched the land for the legendary Tri-Force, but no one, not even the Sages of Hyrule, knew it’s exact location; the knowledge had become lost over time. Some said the Tri-force was under the sea, some said it was inside the great Death Mountain, but no one ever found it. The desire for the Tri-Force soon turned into a lust for power which lead to many deaths and wars. Soon the only motive for the Tri-Forces discovery was greed.

To protect the Tri-Force, a great sage named Rauru built the Temple of Time to guard the entrance to the sacred realm. Using magical powers, he created a large and complex seal which would ensure that the Tri-Force would only be found by those worthy of it. But that did not stop everyone.

Years later a man emerged from the desert, riding on a black horse. His name was Ganondorf Dragmire and he was the kind of Gerudo thieves. He was fixated on finding the Tri-Force and he killed many people in search for the three sacred stones that would open the seal to the Sacred Realm. One was held by the Zoras, another by the Kokiri and a third by the Gorons. In the search for the three stones Ganondorf poisoned the guardian of the Kokiri, the Great Deku Tree. He infested the Goron caves with strange creatures and monsters and he made the protective deity of the Zoras go mad, attacking the daughter of King Zora XVI. However, Ganondorf never found the stones…

The Ocarina of Time

Deep in the Kokiri Forest lived a young boy who was unlike any other Kokiri. He had no Faerie guardian, which every Kokiri was granted by the great Deku Tree. The boy had repeated nightmares of a young girl being carried off on a white horse, closely followed by an evil looking man on a black steed. They boy was called Link.

One night, after awaking from the same nightmare, a faerie called ‘Navi’ came to Link and told Link he had been summoned by the Great Deku Tree. Link picked up his small wooden shield a short sword and went straight to the Deku Tree. The wise and mighty tree told Link that he was cursed. Link decided to fight the curse and entered the Deku Tree, succsessfully killing off the curse inside. However, when link returned outside of the Deku Tree it was too late.

In his dieing breath the Deku Tree gave Link one of the three sacred stones and told him of the man from his nightmares, Ganondorf Dragmire’s evil plot to enter the sacred realm and use the Tri-Force for evil. Link decided to find the other sacred stones and stop Ganondorf.

After curing the curses put apon the Zoras and Gorons Link brought the three stones to the temple of time, but just like in his dream the man on a black horse was chasing Princess Zelda out of Hyrule Castle. Zelda managed to throw something to Link, it was an Ocarina. The note attached to it explained that it was the ‘Ocarina of Time’ and it must be used along with the three sacred stones to open Rauru’s seal.

Link entered the Temple of Time and placed the three stones on the alter, he took the Ocarina of Time and played the melody taught to him by Princess Zelda, “The Song of Time”. The huge doors opened, revealing a huge dusty hall, with a large sword in a stone in the centre of the room. Link approached the stone and with all his might removed it, creating a magic spell to be cast all around him, but little did Link know Ganondorf had tricked him and entered the sacred realm.

The Imprisoning War

Nobody knew what Ganondorf wished from the Tri-Force, however eventually an evil power began to flow through The Golden Land and greedy man were lured there to become members of Ganondorf’s army. Dark clouds permanently blackened the skies of Hyrule and many disasters accured. The King ordered the knights of Hyrule to seal the entrance to the Golden Land but Ganondorf was too powerful to defeat and he swiftly took over Hyrule.

Seven years after Ganondorf found the Tri-Force Link awoke in the temple of light. Rauru, the builder of the temple, explained to Link what had happened while he was asleep. Link had been asleep for seven years because he was too young to become the Hero of Time and he was no longer a boy but a young man. Rauru was on of the seven sages of Hyrule, who if brought together would be able to seal Ganondorf forever in the Golden Land. Link found five more sages; Impa the Shiekah, Darunia the Goron, Nabooru the Gerudo, Saria the Kokiri, and Ruto the Zora, who all became sages. Princess Zelda, who had been raised as a Sheikah for the past seven years was the seventh.

When Link and Zelda were together again it became apparent that the Tri-Force had infact split into 3 peaces. Zelda had the Tri-Force of Wisdom, Link the Tri-Force of Courage and Ganondorf the Tri-Force of power. Ganondorf sensed the coming together of the Tri-Force and captured Zelda, who had hid from him as a sheikah for the past 7 years. Link was lured into Hyrule castle, which had been changed into Ganondorf’s own evil image.

Link fought Ganondorf courageously, but Ganondorfs power was proving to be too much for him. However Links efforts were not in vein, as Ganondorf was slain by Link’s sword. In a last effort, Ganondorf used the Tri-Force of power to transform into the Prince of Darkness, Ganon. Battling Ganon seemed useless, as all of Link’s attacks were easily blocked by the Prince of Darkness but he bided precious time as the seven sages magically sealed Ganon in the Golden Land. All of Hyrule rejoiced as the sky cleared and the sun shined over Hyrule Castle for the first time in almost a decade.

Link courageously handed over the Ocarina of Time to Princess Zelda who sent him back to his original time 7 years before, as a small boy. The entrance to the Sacred Realm was sealed once more, for now…

Link had many more adventures growing up, and ended up in a strange alternate land called Termina, where he saved the world from the possessed Majora’s Mask and returned to his home Hyrule. Link died an old man, and no-one ever knew he had saved Hyrule from the evil king Ganondorf.

Sleeping Princess

Not long after the legacy of Link was over, tragedy hit the royal family of Hyrule. After Link and Zelda had died the Tri-Force was given to the King of Hyrule who led Hyrule into an age of prosperity. However, one day the King tragically died and his son the prince became King of Hyrule and inherited everything from his father, all except the Tri-Force. The prince was only given the Tri-Force of power but he searched high and low for the missing pieces without any luck.

One day a magician who was close to the former King brought the prince some unexpected news, before the King died he had told the prince’s sister, Zelda, the location of the missing Tri-Force pieces. The prince immediately questioned the princess but she wouldn’t tell him anything. The magician threatened to put the princess into an eternal sleep if she didn’t tell the prince the location of the missing Tri-force pieces, but she still wouldn’t talk.

In a fit of rage the magician began to cast a magic spell on the princess. Surprised, the prince tried to stop the magician and in a violent fight the magician was killed, but it was too late; the princess was sent into an eternal sleep.

In his grief, the prince placed the princess in a secret room in the castle hoping that one day someone would be able to free her from the spell. So that this tragedy would never be forgotten, the prince ordered that every child born into the royal household be named Zelda.
