The SNES came in two different console designs as the original Japanese design was redesigned for the USA and later kept for the European release. The USA SNES is more blocking and sharp than the Japanese/European version and uses purple as a primary color rather than the Japanese/European version's red, blue, yellow and green. Here is what the USA version looks like:

The Super Nintendo's main hardware advantage over the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive) was the Super FX chip which was created by UK developer Argonaut which aloud developers to create 3D worlds from polygons. The chip was later abused by Rare.
